US State Department hails 'beautiful partnership' as India and Pakistan agree to ceasefire
US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce spoke on Saturday, May 10, after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect, which she described as the result of a "beautiful partnership" following intensive US mediation efforts led by Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Despite this agreement, explosions rang out in border cities and towns shortly after, with India accusing Pakistan of violating the pact.
The ceasefire comes amidst fears of escalating conflict in the volatile region, with the combined civilian death toll rising to 66 during the recent hostilities.

00:00What it is, it was a beautiful partnership.
00:02This was the result of the vice president, J.D. Vance, of course, this entire government moving through the vision
00:08and implementing the insight and vision of President Trump, along with, of course, my guy, Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
00:16It was it's been a long 48 hours, but this is the point of what we do.
00:21Multiple phone calls, as the secretary's noted on his own ex-account, multiple phone calls at multiple levels
00:28with each government were had, certainly with the prime ministers over this period of time,
00:34back and forth conversations and both, again, J.D. Vance, our vice president and the secretary of state,
00:41clearly making a difference for what clearly is a generational issue between Pakistan and India.
00:48So the beautiful thing is, is that there is a ceasefire that now exists and we look forward to hopefully managing more conversations and having this endure.
00:58So President Trump brings new ideas. He brings this this notion that, you know, we've got to think differently.
01:05But then he he delivers in that regard with a team that he's put together that can speak to all the people around the world
01:11about what needs to happen now, that the status quo is unacceptable.
01:15And clearly, the the issues that are between India and Pakistan, we know, again, have been generational.
01:23And this is exactly the kind of a situation where President Trump's vision and Marco Rubio and J.D. Vance can make a difference for everyone there.
01:32But around the world that people can realize it doesn't have to be this way.
01:35We'll see you next time.
02:08Hello.
02:09Tell me.
02:13I'll see you next time.
