00:00hello there welcome to the second episodes of putting dr. G on the spot in
00:04the month of May when we're talking about HPV and various HPV induced cancers
00:16as we mentioned HPV is a very horrible infection that can cause cancers in fact
00:23one in 20 cancers actually is a resultant of HPV and that include cervical cancer
00:31oral pharyngeal cancer penile cancer and also the anal cancer so how does this
00:40cancer arise in fact all pharyngeal cancer is believed to cause by oral sex or
00:47contact of the virus in the oral pharyngeal area the strange thing is
00:52that men are five times more likely than women to get oral pharyngeal cancers we
00:59don't really know why however the trend is also very strange when we look at
01:04developed nations that cervical cancer is decreasing in prevalence but oral
01:09pharyngeal cancer is increasing in prevalence there are several reasons why
01:14this might be the case number one it might be because women has got screening for
01:19cervical cancer and also mass vaccination in order to suppress HPV but for men
01:27there's no screening and also there is no mass vaccination therefore men are more
01:33susceptible to this the second reason why actually is men are less likely to
01:41develop serial conversion when they are exposed to HPV meaning when women are
01:48exposed to HPV the natural protection of immunity is much stronger than men as a
01:54result of that men are likely to get infection and reinfection and that's not
01:59just in the genitalia it also occurs in the oral pharyngeal and the last reason why
02:06men gets it more often is that the transmission rate between women to men
02:11actually is higher than men to women nobody really knows why and those are the
02:17contributing factors that may cause oral pharyngeal cancer oral pharyngeal cancer
02:23obviously is a destructive and also horrible disease and it's debilitating to
02:30many men who contracted this and then if it's not treated early it might also
02:35cause very horrible late stages of the cancer so again one of the best way to
02:42prevent this is vaccination vaccination is something that is very helpful in
02:49order to prevent men from getting oral pharyngeal cancer which most of the time
02:53is transmissible by oral sex for the third week of HPV series we're going to talk
03:00about how HPV can cause anal cancer so exactly what sort of people will get
03:06anal cancer then you need to find out stay tuned for next week's putting dr. G on
03:11the spot
