00:00:00He is beyond reproach from mere mortals on the desk like us, and here we go.
00:00:05The lights are fading out. Thanks for coming, Pat McAfee, and mercifully, this one is on its way to being...
00:00:13Oh, wait, no! Pat's trying to fight out of this. Pat said he was trying to talk to some people about how to get out of this hole.
00:00:20Another German suplex to McAfee.
00:00:23Okay, hand him one, two, three. Just end this thing. Just end it.
00:00:28Cole, you're appealing for compassion. He's made his point. I get you.
00:00:32Comfort's mind is a compassion-free zone at this point.
00:00:37The guy that... He's made his point.
00:00:40You're appealing to logic, but it's falling on deaf ears.
00:00:43Okay.
00:00:49No, I ticked you off. End this match now, and be done with it all.
00:00:57You have to bite your tongue when you're in close proximity to Gunther at the moment.
00:01:03I'm just asking to end the match, Wade. I get it. I'm not saying anything.
00:01:06I get it.
00:01:08This has never been about the one, two, three for Gunther.
00:01:11He knows he's got that in the bag whenever he feels like it.
00:01:14This is now a public spectacle.
00:01:16Public flogging is what it is.
00:01:21Come on, Pat!
00:01:25They're trying to...
00:01:26Pat's trying to hang on.
00:01:28Fans coming to life here.
00:01:29Pat's trying to stick in this thing.
00:01:32Elbow well placed. Here comes Pat.
00:01:34Come on, Pat.
00:01:35Little rally here.
00:01:36Little rally.
00:01:38You've been against the wall before.
00:01:39You've been against the wall before.
00:01:40Come on.
00:01:40The gun was wrong.
00:01:41Come on, Pat!
00:01:42McAfee landed on his feet.
00:01:45Gunther from behind.
00:01:46Pat lands on his feet again.
00:01:48Takes right to the spine.
00:01:49Here comes McAfee.
00:01:50Come on, Pat!
00:01:51Come on, Pat!
00:01:52Come on!
00:01:54Do something here!
00:01:55Punch to the jaw!
00:01:56Cover!
00:01:57Cover!
00:01:58And a kick out!
00:02:00And Gunther quickly back to his feet and right in McAfee's face.
00:02:02Good job.
00:02:03Pat McAfee has a foot like a traction engine
00:02:06capable of an 85-yard punt
00:02:09and it just bounced up the steel jaw of Gunther.
00:02:13We knew this wasn't going to be pretty.
00:02:15It wasn't going to be a five-star wrestling match.
00:02:17It was going to be a business fight.
00:02:19And now Gunther begging for more from Pat.
00:02:21And Pat delivering chop after chop.
00:02:23Won by Gunther again.
00:02:25Pat still on his feet.
00:02:26How much does Pat have left?
00:02:28That was a big chop by Pat.
00:02:29Pat still on his feet.
00:02:30Still hanging in there.
00:02:31Pat giving it everything he has.
00:02:33Big right.
00:02:34Come on, Pat!
00:02:34Pat McAfee has already blown away expectations.
00:02:39Pat, you've already morally won this.
00:02:41I completely agree.
00:02:42My job!
00:02:43And McAfee's still in this.
00:02:44Swagging it away with Gunther.
00:02:46Pat McAfee may have the upper hand here.
00:02:48And Gunther's covering up!
00:02:49And Pat!
00:02:50Oh my God!
00:02:51Big kick!
00:02:51Gunther's in trouble again!
00:02:53McAfee again with a super kick!
00:02:55Gunther's wobbling!
00:02:57Finish the job, Pat!
00:02:58Oh, caught.
00:02:59And now Gunther's going for a powerbomb on McAfee
00:03:02and he delivers it.
00:03:03And the damn match just ended now!
00:03:05Enough of this!
00:03:06End the match!
00:03:07You got him beat!
00:03:09Enough of it!
00:03:10You got him beat!
00:03:11Well, Gunther getting wobbled there
00:03:13might be as good as it gets for McAfee.
00:03:15And now the torturous Boston Crabb
00:03:18applied center of the ring.
00:03:21Pat McAfee swore blind he would never tap out.
00:03:25Pat Cole!
00:03:26Sit down, Cole!
00:03:27Cole, get back here!
00:03:28What are you doing?
00:03:30Michael Cole has left it down.
00:03:31That's the absolute nutcase!
00:03:34McAfee!
00:03:35Coming back alive!
00:03:37Inches away from that barbomb,
00:03:39but the ring general Gunther transitions the hole
00:03:42are now staring into the eyes
00:03:45of Pat McAfee's best buddy,
00:03:48Michael Cole,
00:03:49continuing
00:03:50to torture Pat McAfee.
00:03:54And Cole,
00:03:54get the hell out of danger!
00:04:01Oh, God!
00:04:02I cannot help you from here!
00:04:05Oh, my God!
00:04:06That is a 58-year-old man!
00:04:16Get the hell off him, Compton!
00:04:18What the hell are you doing?
00:04:24Oh, my God!
00:04:26Oh, my God!
00:04:28Get on him, McAfee!
00:04:31Well, mercifully,
00:04:32somehow Michael Cole has scrabbled out of there
00:04:35as Gunther's still in hot pursuit.
00:04:41Turns his back on Pat McAfee
00:04:43with the O'Connor roll!
00:04:44Oh!
00:04:45Two-champ!
00:04:48Almost the biggest shock
00:04:50of all time in this industry,
00:04:52and Michael Cole still in too close proximity
00:04:55to Gunther as this match continues.
00:05:00Cole grabbing the foot!
00:05:02Rebust!
00:05:02Oh, lateral press!
00:05:05Two and three quarters!
00:05:09And Gunther now furious,
00:05:12completely enraged,
00:05:14focused on Michael Cole,
00:05:15sleeping on my eye!
00:05:17Sleeper locked in deep
00:05:18on the ring general!
00:05:21Is Gunther gonna fade?
00:05:22Escapes!
00:05:22Massive lariat connected with the jaw of Pat McAfee!
00:05:29And once again,
00:05:31the class,
00:05:32the power,
00:05:33the strength
00:05:33of this Austrian destroyer
00:05:36coming to the full!
00:05:38And Pat McAfee is now being put to the sword!
00:05:41There's simply no way I'll give up Pat!
00:05:48And Pat McAfee somehow continuing to attempt
00:05:52to fight through this!
00:05:54The inevitable
00:05:55demise of Gunther getting the hocks in deep!
00:05:59The fun is truly over!
00:06:01Pat McAfee's face turning!
00:06:04Pugh's getting their referee and just end this damn thing!
00:06:07Oh, God, Pat!
00:06:13Well, it's miraculous!
00:06:17And Pat McAfee
00:06:19summoning strength
00:06:20from God knows where,
00:06:21fighting out of this!
00:06:24With his face turned
00:06:25and completely inhuman shape!
00:06:31Just end it, Pat!
00:06:33Give up!
00:06:33Give up!
00:06:33Give up!
00:06:35Give up!
00:06:36His eyes dark like this
00:06:40and that is over!
00:06:43Get Pat McAfee
00:06:44some medical attention immediately!
00:06:46Here is your winner!
00:06:48The ring kettle!
00:06:51Conter!
00:06:56While comfort beats
00:06:58Pat McAfee here at Backlash
00:07:00which should come as a surprise to nobody!
00:07:04But the Cubs,
00:07:04the resolve,
00:07:06the effort
00:07:07from Pat McAfee
00:07:08is something
00:07:09I will be applauding
00:07:10until the end of my days!
00:07:14And even Gunther,
00:07:17the indomitable force
00:07:19seems astounded
00:07:21that it took him
00:07:23ratcheting up
00:07:24through the gears
00:07:25to put away
00:07:26Pat McAfee
00:07:27a mere announcer
00:07:28here in WWE!
00:07:28A mere announcer here
00:07:28in WWE!
00:07:29A mere announcer here
00:07:30in WWE!
00:07:39But the danger
00:07:41is truly still present!
00:07:42Watch yourself, lads!
00:07:43Amen!
00:07:44Let's do it!
00:07:46Thank you very much!
00:07:46Let's do it!
00:07:48Let's do it!
00:07:53Wow.
00:08:22A rare, rare show of respect from one of the greatest this industry has ever seen,
00:08:31Pat McAfee.
00:08:32We are so proud of you, what an effort.
00:08:35And how much abuse did Pat McAfee force himself through this agonizing Boston Crab?
00:08:42Desperately well done by Michael Cole, who left the desk, has called to continue to talk.
00:08:48Michael Cole, such a way to get dragged in the ring, he had to scratch and open in a brief window
00:08:54from McAfee to pull off the ultimate of shot.
00:08:57This was Michael Cole holding the leg of the ring general.
00:09:00Perhaps the greatest chance McAfee had of pulling off that all-time of shot.
00:09:05It wasn't quite enough, and as the sleeper was hooked in, a reversal immediately from Gunther
00:09:11following this clobbing-like lariat.
00:09:14And the sleeper locked in the hocks deep, Pat McAfee fading, the eyes turning to dark pits,
00:09:25and finally getting thrown out.
00:09:32Pat McAfee, that was absolutely incredible.
00:09:37A wow-deserved standing ovation for a man who performed above and beyond this evening of Backlash.
00:09:52Thank you, Pat McAfee.
00:09:54And as we try and catch our breath here, let's go and take a special look at the new movie Karate Kid Legacy,

00:12:00Do it.
00:12:01I'm good.
00:12:02Feel for Pat.
00:12:03But listen, I said this a couple of weeks ago.
00:12:05I'm not going to let a guy like Gunther stop me from doing my job.
00:12:09And I've got to call one of the biggest main events in history coming up.
00:12:12So I'm going to be here to do my job.
00:12:14So let's get to work.
00:12:15WWE is coming to LA on Saturday, June 7th with Worlds Collide.

00:12:28There's going to be plenty to talk about tonight on the Backlash Kickoff Show here in St. Louis.
00:12:36It takes place immediately following our upcoming main event.
00:12:39Of course, Triple H will be a part of that show.
00:12:42You'll see some of the other stars will be involved.
00:12:44Jackie, Biggie, and Peter taking over the festivities from there as soon as our main event is done tonight.
00:12:51You know, Wheatley American Vodka and WWE are proud to be joined tonight by Technical Sergeant Michael Perkins
00:12:57from the USO and Scott Air Force Base right here outside of St. Louis.
00:13:00Wheatley raises a glass to Technical Sergeant Perkins and all retired and active members of the US military for your service.
00:13:09Final time of the night, we're going to show you some comparisons between two all-time greats and John Cena and Randy Orton.
00:13:15Combined 31 world titles.
00:13:20Another 15 other championships.
00:13:23Both have won Money in the Banks, both Royal Rumbles as well.
00:13:26But tonight, it is a rivalry reborn.
00:13:28For over two decades, two Titans have defined era after era.
00:13:32John Cena defends his 17th championship against Randy Orton here in Orton's hometown of St. Louis.
00:13:37Can the Viper slay one more legend on his quest to regain the title?
00:13:41Or will Cena's destructive farewell tour march on?
00:13:44Cena and Orton for the undisputed WWE Championship.
00:13:49Winners write history.
00:13:58Cena is a 17-time world champion!
00:14:02When that hits zero, the title comes home with me!
00:14:08There is no one in the WWE with the strength, the wisdom, or the ruthless aggression!
00:14:21The last real champ is here!
00:14:28RKO! Out of nowhere!
00:14:33I have known you for 25 years.
00:14:38Jimmy, Cena is a 17-time world champion!
00:14:44When that hits zero, the title comes home with me!
00:14:51There is no one in the WWE with the strength, the wisdom, or the ruthless aggression.
00:15:01The last real champ is here.
00:15:10RKO! Out of nowhere!
00:15:15I have known you for 25 years.
00:15:20If you look at that class, OVW, back in 2002, we were looking at the future of WWE.
00:15:28Randy Orton and John Cena are amazing to watch rise together as a child.
00:15:33You would wait and watch for far away.
00:15:39But you always knew that you'd be the one that worked while they all played.
00:15:45You, you lay awake at night's heat.
00:15:51One of the youngest, most charismatic WWE superstars is going to ascend to greatness.
00:15:58Here we are, the great of the world.
00:16:04Here we are, the great of the world.
00:16:06Here we are, the great of the world.
00:16:09He's done it!
00:16:11The youngest 14th time world champion in history.
00:16:16John Cena is a champion!
00:16:1914th time world champion!
00:16:21Randy Orton vs. John Cena has become the rivalry.
00:16:28What magic they made when they were in there together.
00:16:31Nothing comes close to it.
00:16:33Randy and John brought out the best in one another.
00:16:36Randy Orton and John Cena were on parallel roads.
00:16:40Both of those guys wanted the exact same thing.
00:16:42And that's to be the biggest star this business has ever seen.
00:16:45I am going to ruin wrestling for everyone.
00:17:05In this weird, bizarre world where I'm a good guy and you're a bad guy.
00:17:09I figured out, you are the latest legend that I have to put down.
00:17:17Put that title on the line and fight me!
00:17:20Come on!
00:17:23Randy Orton vs. John Cena.
00:17:27You're not going to ruin wrestling.
00:17:28Not over my dead body.
00:17:30What I am trying to do, Randy Orton, is when I leave here, three generations of your family is erased.
00:17:42How dare you say that to me after everything I've been through!
00:17:45How dare you!
00:17:52Randy Orton does not believe that John Cena is the last real champion!
00:18:00Not over his guest we'll be here, Randy Orton!
00:18:01As well as the plot we've been through!
00:18:04Kink-a-kink!
00:18:26Thank you!
00:18:28Larry Orton vs. John Cena!
00:18:28I am gonna say to here
00:18:31But I'll right back
00:18:32I'll do that very journey
00:18:45You can see here
00:18:47But I'll never see here
00:18:51This is a beautiful thing
00:18:53You can see here
00:18:54You can see here
00:18:56I am losing
00:18:58It's not what I'm saying, I have a voice and a sound that's coming down to me.
00:19:07I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this.
00:19:18I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I'm here for this, I
00:22:50I still get goosebumps every time these two men grace the ring.
00:23:29Let's go, let's go, let's go!
00:23:59Let's go!
00:24:29Let's go!
00:24:59Let's go, let's go!
00:25:29Let's go, let's go!
00:25:59Let's go, let's go, let's go!
00:26:29Let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go!
00:26:31Let's go, let's go!
00:26:33Let's go, let's go!
00:26:35Let's go, let's go!
00:26:37Let's go, let's go!
00:26:39Let's go, let's go!
00:26:41Let's go, let's go, let's go!
00:26:43Let's go, let's go, let's go!
00:26:45Let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go!
00:26:47Let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go!
00:26:53And his opponent, he is the greatest of all time, the Unseen 17, here to grace St. Louis
00:27:14with his presence, one final time, he is the last real champion, Gian Sinha.
00:27:37Alicia Taylor giving us that big fight feel here tonight.
00:27:44It was August 9th of 2001, Randy Orton and John Cena met for the very first time in a
00:27:52one-on-one match at an independent show called the Brian Pillman Memorial, back before they
00:27:59were a part of WWE.
00:28:01They would meet for the first time in OVW, Ohio Valley Wrestling, back in 2002.
00:28:07They would go on to meet many times over the years in matches that have branched from SummerSlam
00:28:15to WrestleMania, to triple threats, to I quits, to tables, ladders, and chairs into a 60-minute
00:28:22Ironman match.
00:28:24They are dead even when it comes to wins and losses.
00:28:26And if this is the final time that these two ever meet, I can truly say that I've been honored
00:28:32and privileged to call many of these matches.
00:28:35And I'm sure in this match for the undisputed WWE Championship that Randy Orton and John Cena
00:28:41will tear the house down once again.
00:28:44And we start off with a collar and elbow tie-up.
00:28:49Wade, the key for Randy Orton to win his 15th World Championship.
00:28:52Well, he needs to tap into that unadulterated hometown energy that is backing their boy here
00:29:00in St. Louis all the way to number 15.
00:29:04What about for John Cena, the record-setting 17-time World Champion?
00:29:08Well, John Cena needs to tap into that bitter, resentful side that we saw at WrestleMania,
00:29:15the one that led him all the way to victory over Cody Rhodes, the one that led him to that
00:29:20record 17-time World Championship.
00:29:24John Cena, in a nutshell, needs to take every shortcut and every low road available to him
00:29:30this evening.
00:29:30You know, 17,000-plus tonight.
00:29:36You know, a lot has been made, of course, of the history that John Cena made at WrestleMania,
00:29:4017th World Title.
00:29:42Ric Flair, of course, now sits in second place with 16 World Championships.
00:29:48Third on that list.
00:29:49Time for third is this man, Randy Orton, in the Hall of Famer Triple H with 14.
00:29:56Wade, an incredible feat.
00:30:00Well, I had a good chat with Randy Orton.
00:30:03When we saw it on our pre-show, Randy Orton claims he's got at least 10 years left in
00:30:07his body.
00:30:08If he makes this number 15, then 17 will become tantalizingly close.
00:30:13You know what?
00:30:14I was sort of expecting that.
00:30:16John Cena, obviously, with his cheap little slap.
00:30:19That was just to play mind games.
00:30:21He knew it wasn't going to hurt Randy.
00:30:22Randy, who may be in the best shape of his life.
00:30:25And official Chad Patton, going to let a little bit go here tonight, as well he should.
00:30:33And let me tell you, Cole, the difference at WrestleMania is that Cody Rhodes refused to
00:30:37take that low road with John Cena.
00:30:40He was too morally pure, and it came back to bite him.
00:30:43Randy Orton, historically, has had no issue whatsoever in taking whatever low road is
00:30:49available.
00:30:49All bets are off now, and I like that for Randy Orton.
00:30:53And here's Cena now, back center of the ring.
00:30:55You know, for Randy Orton, I've said many, many times over the years, he has absolutely
00:30:58no absence of malice.
00:31:02He doesn't like anybody.
00:31:04And despite his growing popularity over the years, he's still the same old Randy Orton,
00:31:09Wade.
00:31:09Yeah, the personality doesn't change.
00:31:11Sometimes they love him, sometimes they hate him, but innately inside Randy Orton, there
00:31:16are those sadistic voices turning him to the dark side.
00:31:21And that is a massive benefit to Orton tonight, if he's going to dethrone the so-called last
00:31:28real chap.
00:31:29He had a tremendous sit-down interview with Randy on the countdown show, Wade.
00:31:33He's very open in a lot of the things that he talked about.
00:31:35Yeah, and I'll tell you right now, this is by far the most mature version of Randy Orton
00:31:39I have ever seen.
00:31:41Oh!
00:31:41Truly is, in 2025, the locker room leader that John Cena never was during his time on top.
00:31:49Well, I mean, you would know better than I would since you spent time in the locker room,
00:31:53but I'm not sure if I agree with that statement.
00:31:55I think many people would believe Cena was a locker room leader for much of his career.
00:31:59I completely dispute that.
00:32:00I think John Cena was about one man and one man only, and Randy actually echoed that in
00:32:05my interview with him throughout his career on top.
00:32:07John Cena put himself first and foremost, whereas somebody like Randy Orton is consistently
00:32:12giving back.
00:32:13This is also coming from the guy that headed up a group that tried to end John Cena's career.
00:32:17In fact, you had a match with Randy Orton at one point where John Cena was forced to
00:32:21be the referee in that match because of this whole silly Nexus situation you were involved
00:32:25in.
00:32:25There's nothing silly about the Nexus.
00:32:27I was a young guy trying to punch up and make a name for myself.
00:32:30That's all that was.
00:32:31You can't play with young guys taking shortcuts like that.
00:32:35But Randy Orton is a man who certainly doesn't need any shortcuts this evening.
00:32:40Physically built to perfection.
00:32:41And now John Cena has taken a stroll.
00:32:45He would have never seen this out of the old John Cena.
00:32:47Whatever happened to the hustle and loyalty and the respect and the never give up attitude
00:32:52of this man.
00:32:53John Cena notes physically he cannot match the absolute best.
00:32:56So he has to take these shortcuts on Randy Orton who said, hell no, you ain't getting
00:33:01away that easy.
00:33:02Randy Orton is, he wants an opportunity at the championship.
00:33:06Of course, he has to pin or submit John for that to happen.
00:33:09Interesting interview in Billboard magazine with Randy Orton.
00:33:13Among the subjects they talked about was the fact that, and here's Cena now in the clothesline,
00:33:18was the fact that Randy finds himself in this unfamiliar position of getting cheered when
00:33:23it always used to be Cena getting cheered when he faced Orton in the past.
00:33:26Yeah, it's unadulterated at this point.
00:33:28And let me tell you, the entire locker room in WWE is completely united behind Randy Orton.
00:33:35This spiteful megalomaniac that 2025 John Cena has become.
00:33:41He does not own the history and the legacy of this company and that championship that
00:33:47he's currently in possession of, or since he's gone outside, and that is a massive benefit
00:33:51to Orton tonight if he's going to dethrone the so-called last real champ.
00:33:58He had a tremendous sit-down interview with Randy on the countdown show, Wade.
00:34:02He's very open in a lot of the things that he talked about.
00:34:04Yeah, and I'll tell you right now, this is by far the most mature version of Randy Orton
00:34:08I have ever seen.
00:34:10Oh!
00:34:10Truly is, in 2025, the locker room leader that John Cena never was during his time on top.
00:34:18Well, I mean, you would know better than I would since you spent time in the locker room,
00:34:22but I'm not sure if I agree with that statement.
00:34:24I think many people would believe Cena was a locker room leader for much of his career.
00:34:27I completely dispute that.
00:34:29I think John Cena was about one man and one man only, and Randy actually echoed that in
00:34:33my interview with him throughout his career on top.
00:34:36John Cena put himself first and foremost, whereas somebody like Randy Orton is consistently
00:34:41giving back.
00:34:42This is also coming from the guy that headed up a group that tried to end John Cena's
00:34:46career.
00:34:46In fact, you had a match with Randy Orton at one point, but John Cena was forced to be
00:34:50the referee in that match because of this whole silly Nexus situation you were involved in.
00:34:54There's nothing silly about the Nexus.
00:34:56I was a young guy trying to punch up and make a name for myself.
00:34:59That's all that was.
00:34:59You can't blame young guys taking shortcuts like that.
00:35:03But Randy Orton is a man who certainly doesn't need any shortcuts this evening.
00:35:08Physically built to perfection.
00:35:10And now John Cena has taken a stroll.
00:35:14You would have never seen this out of the old John Cena.
00:35:16Whatever happened to the hustle loyalty and the respect and the never give up attitude
00:35:21of this man.
00:35:22John Cena knows physically he cannot match the absolute best.
00:35:25So he has to take these shortcuts on Randy Orton who said, hell no, you ain't getting away
00:35:30that easy.
00:35:31Randy Orton is, he wants an opportunity at the championship.
00:35:35Of course, he has to pin or submit John for that to happen.
00:35:38Interesting interview in Billboard magazine with Randy Orton.

00:35:47was the fact that Randy finds himself in this unfamiliar position of getting cheered.
00:35:52When it always used to be Cena getting cheered when he faced Orton in the past.
00:35:55Yeah, it's unadulterated at this point.
00:35:57And let me tell you, the entire locker room in WWE is completely united behind Randy Orton.
00:36:04This spiteful megalomaniac that 2025 John Cena has become.
00:36:09He does not own the history and the legacy of this company.
00:36:14Of that championship that he's currently in possession of.
00:36:17Or since he's going to retire with it, because he's the, quote, last real champion.
00:36:27Still impressed with the shape that John's able to maintain with the schedule that he has.
00:36:34Dude, I can't lose a pound if I try.
00:36:37Physically incredible shape is John Cena.
00:36:41And he showed that he absolutely does not have that ring rust at WrestleMania 41.
00:36:455, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 14, 15, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 19, 20.
00:37:0117,000 plus in St. Louis in unison, standing along with Randy's punches.
00:37:06Give him 20 more, please, Randy Orton.
00:37:10And Cena now on jelly legs.
00:37:13Not a good place to be.
00:37:15when you're in that kind of proximity to a man as dangerous as randy or cover by randy on cena
00:37:21and cena kicks it too randy knew he wasn't going to pick up the win there that was more
00:37:25psychological than anything else well that's the methodical pacing that has made randy or one of
00:37:31the absolute greatest of all time and now that carving stomp being targeted across the frame
00:37:38of johnson i think we've named it the orton stomp by now and wade you i'm old school pal
00:37:44and you mentioned this weight in the countdown i thought it was really interesting the methodical
00:37:48style of randy orton that's the style that cena worked against cody rose at wrestlemania and it
00:37:52really helped john in that matchup but now he's in the match against a guy like orton who does the
00:37:56same thing yeah you're absolutely right so cody rose is a much faster paced superstar than john cena
00:38:02having to be at wrestlemania 41 cody was baited into that if cena wants to take things slow tonight
00:38:08that entirely plays into the wheelhouse of the viper randy orton who looks a different class to
00:38:14the jump this evening randy with a knee to the face of cena and a kick out let's not forget i mean
00:38:22let alone the fact that his dad is a cowboy bob orton we mentioned 40 years ago this weekend the big
00:38:28match with hulk hogan at saturday night's main event but you know he also learned the trade and
00:38:33all the tricks in the book from not only triple h but the nature boy the dirtiest player in the history
00:38:39of the sport as part of evolution and we talked about that low road no finer tutors in history
00:38:47to give you a road map on how to excel on that low road and drop the hammer at the right time against
00:38:54john cena who certainly is not going to give up easily in this one yeah see they're looking for a
00:38:59sleeper now on orton got him caught center of the ring not sure if john has it all and now he might
00:39:03john putting his entire pressure on the body of randy randy's massive frame able to hold john up at
00:39:09least momentarily but john trying to wrestle him down to the mat yeah we saw that montage of the
00:39:14history between these two you can see from the frame alone how much the physique of randy has changed
00:39:19over the years once upon a time he made well of collapse when john cena was on his back not here
00:39:24uh-oh yeah the viper wrapping himself around john cena more like a chin lock applied here
00:39:34wrestling john down to the mat now to one knee randy done a hell of a job of keeping his ego and his
00:39:39anger intact so far now john turns it around to a sleeper of his own now remember this has seen his
00:39:45first title defense since he won the championship at wrestlemania he's not had a match since then randy
00:39:50york now locks up john again and now john into one of his own well these two know each other so
00:40:01and that back suplex brings both men down in the center of the ring again senior official chad
00:40:06patton working this match tonight it's going to be incredibly difficult for either one of these two to
00:40:13catch the other by surprise this evening you know wait we talked earlier no one ever thought that
00:40:17someone would would knock off the 16 time world championship record held by flair cena did it now
00:40:25people are talking about the fact that nobody's ever going to get to 17 but if orton's talking about
00:40:30hanging around another 10 years he may do that yeah it's only randy orton who's in with any form of
00:40:35dance right now that's for sure shoulder tackle now by cena orton goes down again and john
00:40:42and there's that spin slam by cena and john cena's got where he wants him will he give these fans what
00:40:49they want muscle memory for cena and hats off the scene they're not even breathing heavy
00:40:53mockingly
00:41:04and now john with the five knuckle shuffle across the forehead of orton well he's a knob but he's
00:41:10absolutely capable of tapping into that historical best and here we go gold tina looking for an a
00:41:16and orton who's able to slip out from behind randy now with the clothesline now or something to pick up
00:41:21the pace it is may it is the final number of months of john cena's legendary career he wants to retire
00:41:30as champion orton has something to say about it tonight they're talking about tapping into historical best
00:41:37randy orton doing what he does like nobody else and cena's in trouble here he's been in this position before
00:41:43it's a draping ddt but oh cena great move cena rolling up orton here and again these guys know
00:41:52each other so well wait yeah when you know that now cena look at the stfu randy blocking it so so
00:41:59well keep those hands where they are randy john trying to lock it in but randy orton able to block
00:42:05at least momentarily john's able to slip it in there though he doesn't have all of it as orton now
00:42:10tries to drag john to the rope that's seen the desperately trying to rear back and stretch that
00:42:15spine of randy orton but randy perhaps at this point at least too powerful to alarm to do so and
00:42:22john cena realizing that was to grab and drag working back through the middle of the ring randy
00:42:27creates some space we've got it stay away from the heaviest hitters and here we go again
00:42:32and this time now vintage randy orton with a draping ddt and i think randy
00:42:42as he recuperates may start hearing some voices i've tasted that ddt many times from randy orton and
00:42:49things never went well in the aftermath randy shrugging off some pain in that lower back from that sd everton
00:42:59the viper is
00:43:06the viper is ready to strike
00:43:16went for the rko cina blocked cina now with randy
00:43:20up on his shoulders
00:43:24attitude adjustment wait a minute
00:43:31both men down
00:43:36okay well figure this out massive amount of effort there from johnson look at this all right there
00:43:42he missed it yes
00:43:45randy went for the rko and both men took each other out
00:43:50just shows you how lightning fast the reactions of randy orton are in real time
00:43:55we were oblivious to it but check the slow-mo mic on keeping himself in the match yeah incredible
00:44:01cena delivering an aa while randy countered at the same time of the rko and
00:44:05well cena smelled victory there but taking it away at the death is the unrepentant viper
00:44:15it's amazing and so many years of watching these two new battle and it just eats it every time it
00:44:21just so blessed to be out here wade to watch these two all-time greats go at each other
00:44:26true most iconic professional wrestlers of this millennium you share the one a and one b
00:44:35and a big uppercut by randy i'll tell you 17 000 plus have been invested
00:44:46and not only oh wait a minute
00:44:48a.a. a.a. by cena to retain honor cover kick out by randy
00:44:55well that time randy orton just had no answer you had to think he was rocked by those massive shots
00:45:01from john cena
00:45:04randy orton having to dig deep to protect the legacy of not only his family but his entire industry
00:45:11i was going to say 17 000 invested in every move in this match tonight in fact they've been invested in
00:45:17every move of every match tonight and what has been an incredible show
00:45:33we've had three title retentions so far tonight cena trying to make it full
00:45:38and now randy orton up on his shoulders again able to use those long arms to hang on to the top rope
00:45:45and the momentum now this is wildly seen off the ropes again there's another shoulder attack with
00:45:50randy randy randy randy oh you're out of nowhere come on randy looking for the pin here and john cena
00:45:58rolling out of harm's way randy could not capitalize oh my god john cena picking up the pace on this one
00:46:05randy orton with a desperation throw at the rko so much has been taken out of orton and he may have
00:46:12got a stinger at some point trying to get some feeling back in the hands grabbing the neck look at this
00:46:17rko so instinctive already said precision and weight he's had neck issues back issues shoulder
00:46:23issues his entire career 25 years at the top taking on guys like john cena will do that to your frame
00:46:30both of these men racked with countless injuries over the years it's astounding they can still do this
00:46:36at the very top level it's been nearly eight and a half years oh wait a minute the legend killer wants
00:46:42to be the goat killer went for the pot john cena able to counter into another a.a to retain hook of the leg
00:46:52orton kicks out wow well randy orton did promise us a couple of weeks ago he was going to connect with a
00:47:00pump to the skull of john c but excitement over committed turn his back briefly and cena was ready to
00:47:08bounce but he will do it somehow still randy orton and i'm looking over at orton in the ring he's
00:47:15keeping wriggling those fingers i don't know how much feeling is left in there big fight atmosphere
00:47:2017 000 plus sold out st orton once again perhaps the final time for the undisputed wwe
00:47:29york big smile on his face off the reaction of the wwe fans and orton's hometown and now john cena of
00:47:44his own randy orton moves out of harm's way randy now went for an arcana
00:47:48heart shoved into the official i'm not sure that was a advert but didn't work by cena but nonetheless
00:47:55the official chad pattens down yeah that was a heavy landing for chad patten and now with chad down
00:48:01cena with a third a.a delivered to randy but john is very well aware there's no official right now yeah
00:48:06how many times do you see people dive on a pin in that situation that is 25 years of experience of
00:48:11john cena knowing full well he's gonna hide into nothing but with the referee down what the
00:48:19you know john is staring down at the title remember what happened at wrestlemania
00:48:23when cody rhodes wouldn't pull the trigger wouldn't use the championship well you can go as low as you
00:48:29want at this point you can't see me referee can't see why why that was the answer history i mean you've
00:48:41already made history history you're not to act like this well he's trying to own history that's the point
00:48:46that's why he wants to retire with that championship and with the referee down randy
00:48:51orton knew that was his opportunity and cena is now reeling well what a roller coaster
00:49:0460 seconds this was swinging back and forth both men looking to be closing in on the win
00:49:25randy's in a bad way but i think john cena is even worse off at this point oh chad patten i'm not even sure he can breathe
00:49:38oh boy get the hell out of the way you don't have to tell me twice oh god you remember that pens of
00:49:57rage that was supposed to be targeted and kevin owens he didn't just dissipate it's remained and
00:50:03it's been refocused on john cena what are you talking about this man's had pen up rage for 25 years
00:50:08oh man somebody get a doctor over here chad went head first into the steps yeah chad patten's done
00:50:23and now john cena sending randy orton off the ring post well the referee chad patten was trying to
00:50:28play with randy or speak some sense get him back in the ring and that was the moment john cena capitalized
00:50:35and go straight back into this and again i got to admit something here way that john has been
00:50:40just a step quicker tonight to beat randy orton to the punch he's got that look on his face that
00:50:46he's loved every second of it so far he's trying to embarrass and humiliate randy orton in his hometown
00:50:52well he's going to do that if you put him through this table here just to scowl and the disgusting look
00:50:59on the face of the disgusted look i should say on the face of cena
00:51:03and now john with randy orton up top
00:51:08focusing on the announce table now randy orton though he's got john up on his own and randy
00:51:14randy orton now look at this randy with an a-a to cena
00:51:20on top of the table with an a-a delivering to cena
00:51:28and randy's talking to himself now and that's never a good thing you might want to get back
00:51:46cole you've already well god's danger once this evening you want me to go
00:51:57randy now just dragging
00:52:03randy now just dragging john cena up talking some trash as he's doing it
00:52:07and amidst this carnage referee chad pattern is down and i assure you out he's not coming back here
00:52:16well somebody somebody better check on chad he's out we need another official down here randy's beat
00:52:22the hell out of cena and i don't think he's done yet got a lot of walking wounded our medical staff are
00:52:29focused on a lot of the bodies that have beaten been beaten up this evening
00:52:36and things are about to get even worse judging by the actions of randy orton
00:52:41randy orton uh he's setting up a table wade randy orton is now setting up a table
00:53:03i mean he's already put john into one and through one and now he's got the hood of our announce table
00:53:10and he's tossing out of harm's way and he's going to drag john cena now
00:53:14and morality goes out the window referees down take your chance make this a street fight
00:53:22now john fighting back bouncing randy off the steel steps here

00:54:47Guarantee victory.
00:54:48And Randy Orton now is coiled and ready to strike John Cena.
00:54:52Trying to come to now, trying to make it back to his feet.
00:54:55Orton is primed and ready.
00:54:57Randy Orton now.
00:54:58Arte on a Cena.
00:55:01Forehead to Kamba.
00:55:02Kamba, wait a minute.
00:55:03Look who's coming.
00:55:04Look who's coming.
00:55:05Official Eddie Orango.
00:55:06Into the ring.
00:55:07Cena kicks it too.
00:55:09Not quite quick enough for Randy Orton.
00:55:11But we've got another official in the ring.
00:55:15Well, the frustration is palpable inside this arena.
00:55:19The hometown boy had it won.
00:55:22But somehow, I'll give all the credit in the world.
00:55:25After going through two tables and tasting an RKO, John Cena refuses to die.
00:55:35And now, as Randy talks to the official, John Cena stalking him from behind.
00:55:45Oh, the championship bounced off the face.
00:55:49Oh, KO!
00:55:50The official's down again.
00:55:52Randy Orton's got the damn championship won.
00:55:55Again!
00:55:56And again, there's no official!
00:55:57One, two, three!
00:56:00One, two, three!
00:56:01One, two, three!
00:56:03One, two, three!
00:56:03And now, general manager Nick Aldis from SmackDown.
00:56:06And a bunch of officials heading down to the ring.
00:56:09Trying to get the official Eddie Orango to come to.
00:56:12I'll tell you right now, I've seen many championship shots to the cranium in my time.
00:56:18That was about as hard a hit as I have ever seen.
00:56:22I'm not surprised as this was focused on the referee who's down.
00:56:25And Randy, of course, must straighten.
00:56:27He had this one!
00:56:28Of course he did.
00:56:29Now he's yelling at Aldis, the general manager.
00:56:33Get another referee, Nick!
00:56:34Very many left.
00:56:39After seeing two caucuses of referees who complain nobody else would want it to run down.
00:56:45Get some...
00:56:45Oh!
00:56:46RKO in Aldis, that'll be a fine.
00:56:49Another RKO!
00:56:51It's an RKO party in St. Louis!
00:56:54A frustrated RKO with RKO after RKO!
00:56:58There are bodies everywhere, carnage at the hands of a completely out-of-his-mind Randy Orton.
00:57:09Bodies everywhere, and now voices ringing in the ears of the sadistic psychopath.
00:57:20And he's complaining to Randy Orton for losing his right at this point.
00:57:24He had the title won in a number of times in this match.
00:57:27John Cena is defenseless in the corner.
00:57:31Randy Orton is backing up into position.
00:57:33He tried to do this earlier tonight.
00:57:35I mentioned the legend killer.
00:57:37For many years, printed legends.
00:57:41One final legend to kill.
00:57:47Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!
00:57:48What the hell are you doing, Truth?
00:57:50R-Truth, coming to the aid of his long-time RKO!
00:57:57Truth, a long-time fan of Cena's, coming out here to defend John.
00:58:03Low blow!
00:58:04That's R-Truth's fault!
00:58:08No, I mean...
00:58:10R-Truth leads in an alternative reality.
00:58:13He did come out here because he's a fan of John's, but the problem now, off the low blow, Cena has the championship gold in hand again, right off the skull of Orton.
00:58:23He gets rid of the evidence, into the cover.
00:58:27Again, no official, but coming to and dragging himself into the ring is Chad Patton.
00:58:32Patton's back into the ring.
00:58:33The cover now by Cena, Randy Orton is down and out, and John Cena retains the damn championship.
00:58:39Here is your winner, and still the undisputed WWE Champion, John Cena!
00:58:59Yeah!
00:59:00Now, I don't even know what to say anymore, except the fact that the old John Cena never, in a million years, would have taken a victory like that.
00:59:10Well, this is the...
00:59:11Which is what made him special, Wade.
00:59:13That is what made John Cena special.
00:59:15Well, you're a reformed fanboy like a lot of people at this point, but this is the most desperate, soulless John Cena we have ever seen, but crucially, that's irrelevant right now.
00:59:27What is relevant is that John Cena is still the champ.
00:59:32Well, he wants to, uh, retire the title, the last real champion in his mind, and, I mean...
00:59:39Well, this was the second referee who got fouled, Eddie Orango Championship, shot to the skull, connected with a flush RKO, and Randy had this one.
00:59:51This was the moment, this place should have come unglued, and Randy should have been the 15th time world champion.
00:59:58Well, Randy's gonna suffer a lot of fines after the carnage he left, as his, uh, uh, his frustrations with an RKO party.
01:00:08And he won, in reasonable range, took one.
01:00:12Our producers, our executives, Jamie Noble, face first, bouncing off the mat.
01:00:18And this was when Randy Orton lined up the punts, and it should have been executed.
01:00:23That was the kill shot.
01:00:25Oh, R-Truth out here, uh, to save his long time, uh, uh, oh, buddy, I guess.
01:00:30Always a fan of Cena.
01:00:32And, of course, with the officials still out, that was delivered below, low weight, and then it was just a...
01:00:36Well, that distraction from Arthur, it opened the window for John Cena to do the dastardly, take it as low as you want.
01:00:44And Randy Orton at this point, with that championship shot, he's out completely cold.
01:00:49You hope, beyond hope, there would be some way he could kick out of this.
01:00:55You know what?
01:00:55You know what makes me so angry about all this is the fact that that was a great match.
01:01:04John put on a hell of a show.
01:01:05I know you can't see me, but can you hear me?
01:01:07Cut the damn music!
01:01:08I don't need music.
01:01:21I don't need music.
01:01:29What I need is competition.
01:01:32And I sure as hell don't need you.
01:01:43Drink it in, St. Louis.
01:01:44Because this is what the last real champion looks like.
01:01:55Well, thank you, Mr. Gilliam.
01:01:57Thank you for listening.
01:05:36We are live inside.
