03:58So one of the best parts about this home is I love how modern it is, it's got such clean lines, even the refrigerator or the stove or the gas cooking oven, I never cook so I don't even know what is it called or you don't either.
04:13So my husband likes to cook, it's a hot plate with wok.
04:17Yes.
04:18So he likes, yeah, so her husband likes to cook, we like to eat.
04:22So that's a skill in itself.
04:25Perhaps you have to tell me, were you very particular that you don't want to see the refrigerators, you don't want to see the oven, everything has to be clean line.
04:33Yes, so idea was I wanted everything to be concealed, like nothing, like I said, no switches, nothing, nothing out there to be visible for everyone.
04:42So everything, like even my hot plate should be concealed, even my water filters are concealed, even the storage places, a lot of hidden storage places in my house,
04:52but all are like concealed with wall cladding or like some kind of art fixture or something, you know, but I didn't want it to be, you know, like appear to make it look more appealing and aesthetically look nice.
05:04Right, it's very modern, barring the gold detailing, I would say it's very Dubai, is the gold your idea, is that your personality peeking through?
05:14It's kind of my personality, but like gold added, adds like little softness, the way I've added it, it's not like, you know, too much gaudy or, you know,
05:23The whole idea was to make it more like opulent with the lifestyle of Dubai, our lifestyle with, you know.
05:30That's correct, that's amazing, you come from Dallas and I, a little birdie tells me that it's almost like a Harry Potter mansion,
05:36it's very different from what we are currently in, huge acres of land, etc.
05:43So when you came into Dubai, what kind of vibe did you want the home to exhibit?
05:48So our U.S. houses are more like a chateau, it's like a French chateau and it's quite spacious and very traditional and very Frenchy.
05:57So when I came, this house was Mediterranean when we came here and we enjoyed it for a few years,
06:02but I wanted to change it, how Dubai was evolving and how, you know, everybody, whenever I used to go back,
06:09everybody was like, oh, you're from Dubai and something came in my mind and I was like,
06:13I want to make it more luxurious, but functional.
06:16My house is very like purposeful as well and everything is in its place and it's very useful as well.
06:22So it's not like just, just everything is out there, nice and glamorous, but also very functional.
06:29I achieved the purpose as well by giving the nice room to my daughter.
06:34The one, the pink room.
06:37Yes, she wanted a nicer room.
06:39So when we decided to renovate it, the first idea was to give the dream room to my daughter.
06:45Really?
06:45That she wanted.
06:46Yeah, you will see the pictures of it.
06:48It's beautiful actually.
06:49That's how we started.
06:50Then I wanted the infinity pool.
06:52So things started coming together when I was doing the layout.
06:57The space was very close.
06:58Yes.
06:59It was very enclosed space when we got the house.
07:01So I wanted it to be open.
07:03Even the kitchen was back in there.
07:05And when we came from US, we wanted more like open space, open kitchens,
07:09everybody, families together.
07:11We can sit, dine together.
07:12So I opened up the entire, like I changed the entire layout.
07:15I broke so many walls here.
07:18So whenever like this, actually the developer's knuckle.
07:22So whenever they used to come, just like, she broke all the walls.
07:25What is she planning to do?
07:26So tell me something.
07:27You had a structure, there was a shell.
07:29You removed it all.
07:30Yeah.
07:31And then you removed it all from ground up.
07:33You built it.
07:33How long did the whole process take?
07:35So initially, the time duration I planned was a year and a half.
07:39But COVID happened at that time.
07:41So everything got delayed with permissions, labor timings, and some restrictions as well.
07:46So it took us like around three years.
07:48That's perfect.
07:48That's perfect.
07:49In fact, we were just having a casual chat with our husband.
07:53It was brilliant, by the way.
07:54It was just saying, our budgets began with 1 million and then it became 15 million.
07:59Yes, I'm sure it's more with the land purchase and everything added together.
08:03But just doing up the interiors.
08:04I think it's worth it.
08:06Of course it's worth it.
08:07Yeah, with interiors.
08:08So of course, you know, like everything I was getting was cost friendly.
08:12It was not like over there.
08:13But just the interiors alone, when you spend as much as like say buying a home, what was
08:19going through your mind?
08:20Like, you know, and naturally she had to have gold.
08:22So yeah, gold isn't cheap.
08:24So you need to tell me like, were you very particular that your house, you know, it's
08:28okay if you overshoot your budget.
08:31It's okay.
08:31So I didn't want to leave the place.
08:33I'm in love with the energy of this place.
08:35So something, you know, my daughter grew up here.
08:37We were planning to get another house, which was like anything we'll get, we'll have to
08:42redo it.
08:43Yes.
08:43So I, and for some reason I like the view, why we have a skyline view and I didn't want,
08:48I couldn't like find any place.
08:50I was like, let me break this and we'll, you know, make it according to my hour.
08:55Like my entire family's need as well.
08:58I kept their need in mind as well, but mostly, mostly it defines me and my personal.
09:05My husband was back off and he said, let her do her thing.
09:08Oh no, that's very sweet of him.
09:09He actually gave you the control, the creative control and financial assistance.
09:14That's the dream.
09:15That's the dream union.
09:17He pays the bill.
09:18You come up with the ideas.
09:20I couldn't ask for more.
09:21But I put a lot of effort in it, to be honest, a lot of effort.
09:24like back and forth coming, you know, there was a lot of hindrance coming because we wanted
09:30to add the TV that I showed you.
09:32A lot of things came up during, you know, planning that as well with the vertical, this horizontal
09:39window.
09:40There was a vertical window in the initial plan, but it was obstructing the entire.
09:42That's overlooking the ocean.
09:44Yeah.
09:44So this entire living room has a gigantic window without any cladding or anything.
09:49It's just, it slides up and you, it overlooks the sea and her pool.
09:54It's like amazing.
09:55I've never seen anything like that.
09:56And it's all controlled by a switch.
09:58There's no switch.
09:59What is it?
09:59It's all controlled by?
10:00It's all controlled with the phone.
10:01With the phone.
10:02Home automation system.
10:03Yeah.
10:03So the entire thing is like, you know, a click of a button on your phone and then it just
10:08comes up.
10:09That's pretty cool.
10:09I mean, it's very modern, right?
10:11But even your living room, there's no TV.
10:14You cannot see it.
10:15It comes up from the ground up.
10:16It just comes up slowly.
10:18Like I said, conceal things.
10:20A lot of conceal.
10:21Yes.
10:22She loves to keep everything clean.
10:23Even her TV is buried underneath and then it only comes up when required.
10:29What's this need for like concealing everything though?
10:31I wanted it more open and spacious and, you know, when useful, when you need it.
10:37So all our TVs like either, they're hidden on the ceiling or in the floor.
10:42This was some concept I was trying to not experiment with something in my vision.
10:47It was already there that I wanted to create something like this.
10:50Right.
10:50You have pillars that change colors.
10:52When there is a match happening, let's say a Pakistan match, it lights up in green,
10:56which I think is pretty cool technique.
10:58now it's blush pink, which is pretty cool.
11:01Is that what you wanted?
11:02As an interior decorator, do you think, interior designer I would say,
11:08are you very futuristic in your vision?
11:11I think so.
11:11I feel like, and especially the lighting, I think it plays key role in creating the mood
11:17of the house or your like environment that you're having.
11:20So I felt like changing this, like you can dim the light with especially these technologies
11:26these days with smart tech.
11:27you can change the ambience of the entire house and it, you know, helps us change the
11:33mood of the entire, like what's the rhythm going on.
11:36We can, you know, enjoy that time at that moment.
11:39Right.
11:40I see art installations like chandeliers, but they're not lights really, right?
11:44everything else is covered.
11:45Is that, is that something to make it look warm, soft?
11:49Not, not too much, you know, not too bright.
11:51I think maybe it's a Texas thing because we lived a lot of many years in Texas or something
11:57to do with, you know, my husband was like always, I don't want any direct light.
12:01So I, I, that's a very odd ask, isn't it?
12:04I designed it very, you know, in a way that all the, these are all false ceilings.
12:08So I designed it the way the light cannot come in your eyes.
12:12Right.
12:13Yeah.
12:14There are many women who are trying to make homes.
12:16It's a very, it's a painful task.
12:18I mean, as exciting as it is, what is the top three tips you would as an interior designer?
12:24Um, especially, I think I, uh, as an interior designer, first I see whatever their needs are.
12:29You know, you have to cater to the needs of the person, how, what they actually want, what
12:34kind of room they want, if they are, they, it should be kids friendly.
12:38So, you know, they, they, if, if it should be kids friendly, then they have to keep this
12:43in mind and make the house very, you know, like relaxed and minimalistic, not too many
12:48things around.
12:49And if they want to like, depends on what they actually want.
12:53Right.
12:54So the tip is like first plan the layout layout is the most important thing.
12:58Then you have to have a budget, which I've exceeded, unfortunately, but there has to be
13:03a budget in mind.
13:05So in that budget, we, we can do things and we can plan things and lot of things, you
13:10know, like our, uh, if you know the budget and if you know what you actually want and
13:15how the layout, how, uh, actually you want your layout to be, it gets very easy.
13:20Okay.
13:21So first, initially you have to plan your layout first.
13:23Plan your layout.
13:24Yeah.
13:25Then your budget.
13:26Then your budget.
13:27And then you can start picking up things.
13:29You can go rendering, whatever the style is, depends.
13:32If you want somebody likes traditional, someone like transitional, someone like modern, everybody
13:36has their own taste.
13:37But decide your why.
13:38So decide your why first.
13:39Then, you know, because a lot of people come up with four or five ideas and then, you know,
13:44it, it doesn't, it doesn't come along.
13:46If you want transitional, then come up with one idea and stick to that.
13:50Oh, I like that.
13:51And keep changing because changing actually take time and deciding rather than once you
13:57decide something and change.
13:58Okay.
13:59That costs you more as well.
14:00And it, you know, it doesn't come, the result doesn't come out what you want to achieve.
14:04That's a very handy tip actually.
14:06People often forget to do the planning and then they just lurch into something.
14:09That's really nice.
14:10While I was walking in, Antha, I looked at your car collection.
14:14There was a pink, Barbie pink G-Wagon.
14:17And then, is it a Maserati?
14:19I'm not very good with cars.
14:20It's a Barabbas Mercedes.
14:21Oh, Mercedes.
14:22And it's teal in color, right?
14:24Is that the one?
14:25The teal one is Lamborghini, the one Tiffany color and the pink one is my daughter's car.
14:31I love, your daughter has a pink G-Wagon.
14:34Yes, G-Wagon.
14:35How old is she?
14:36Especially when she turned 16, my husband gave her.
14:39She can't drive.
14:40She can't drive.
14:41She has a driver.
14:42That's the gift.
14:43What kind of dream husband and dream father is this?
14:46Just gives a G-Wagon pink color to his daughter.
14:49And you drive it now?
14:50I drive the Lamborghini.
14:52So who drives the pink one?
14:54The driver.
14:55She goes to pick her up.
14:57It's a female driver.
14:58It's such a Dubai thing to do, have a pink G-Wagon.
15:01And it's very safe also, you know, to let your daughter go out and enjoy.
15:05And I feel like Dubai has given us this luxury of enjoying everything very safely.
15:11When you go out there, you cannot enjoy everything with peace of mind.
15:15Yes.
15:16If my daughter's out there, I feel very, you know, safe.
15:18If she's alone and enjoying with her friends or anything, I'm very comfortable.
15:22I love it.
15:23And which is the, I know that you love the closet area the most.
15:28That's my sanctuary.
15:29That's your sanctuary.
15:30Yeah, that's your sanctuary.
15:31Yes.
15:32You have to tell me all about it.
15:33And it's beautiful though.
15:34It's like walking into the fashion dome of Dubai Mall.
15:39Half the designer brands are there stacked.
15:42You think Chanel's, Gucci's, everything lined up.
15:45It's something out of a Bollywood movie.
15:47Perhaps you should tell me like, why is that your sanctuary?
15:50Your favourite part of the room.
15:51So basically my day starts with it, ends with, ends in that room.
15:56So I have all, I wanted to retreat myself.
15:58Give it like a place where I can have everything and enjoy my day there.
16:03More like a calm.
16:05Plus, you know, like something that I feel gratitude about.
16:09Whenever I go there, I feel very, I mean, I enjoy that place.
16:13Right.
16:14How has Dubai, like, you know, I feel this is a home that's also reflective of Dubai.
16:20Like a bit of gold, a bit of class and all of that jazz.
16:24You guys were very clear that Palm Jumeirah is the address to me.
16:27Yes.
16:28You could have chosen anything, right?
16:29From what I understand.
16:30Since I landed in Dubai, I think I fell in love with this place.
16:33And the energy, the calmness of the water.
16:36And you know, we saw a few, few other locations as well.
16:40But me and my husband, it came naturally to us.
16:42We both decided that it should be Palm.
16:45If we want to move from Texas to Dubai, it's going to be on the beach.
16:49I love it.
16:50Shah Rukh is her neighbor.
16:53Sushmita Sen is her neighbor as well.
16:55Do you run into them often while jogging?
16:58Not often, but yeah, we have seen them.
17:01And their friends also live around.
17:03So whenever they come, we are aware of them whenever they are around.
17:07That's nice.
17:08Is it great too?
17:09I mean, how important is an address in Dubai, you think?
17:12Like living in the Palm?
17:13Is it you're living the dream?
17:15It is actually.
17:16It's a lot of nice places are around.
17:19Nice restaurants are around close by.
17:21You can enjoy the vibe here.
17:23Especially West Beach is just right down the corner.
17:26So we go there often.
17:28And whenever, you know, like I think Dubai resonates with luxury and this kind of modernization and all.
17:36And whenever you say Palm to anyone, everybody knows it.
17:39Exactly.
17:40So I feel like, you know, when we came, we actually like the place.
17:43We like the beach.
17:44We like the house.
17:45So whenever.
17:46But it is very important.
17:47Whenever we are out there traveling and we say we live in Dubai and we live in Palm.
17:52They're like, oh, Palm.
17:53And I'm like, okay, I think we picked the right place.
17:56Excellent.
17:57I know you spend 15 million just on the interiors alone.
18:01When you started with a 1 million budget.
18:02I love that.
18:03You overshotted.
18:042 million actually.
18:052 to 3 million.
18:08But we came 15.
18:09Yeah.
18:10Nobody's counting.
18:11Calm down.
18:12After the 10th million, who's counting?
18:13So the whole house in today's market, because Dubai's property market is heating up.
18:17How much would you think this would fetch?
18:20Because it's also very, very tech friendly.
18:23That is a good question.
18:24But it's for my husband.
18:25I think over 50 million, I'm sure.
18:2750 to 60 million.
18:28Just the out interior and then forget all of what has come inside as well, right?
18:33That would fetch you more as well.
18:35What is the least used?
18:36Like, do you have a least used corner of the house?
18:40Perhaps the pool?
18:42The patio that you were talking to me about?
18:44With like transparent?
18:45I think least used corner by me is the indoor kitchen.
18:49By the way, her indoor kitchen is the functional kitchen.
18:52The functional kitchen.
18:53And the sauna.
18:54Yeah.
18:55Yeah.
18:56I don't know why I put it there because it's always so hot here.
18:59So the sauna is where you like rarely use.
19:02Especially only in winter time sometimes.
19:04By my husband mostly, but not me at all.
19:07Right.
19:08And little birdie tells me that your husband could unleash his creative energy into design.
19:14The bathroom idea.
19:15That's all he got.
19:16How many square footage did he get?
19:18Be truthful.
19:19Be truthful.
19:20It's pretty small.
19:21It's pretty small.
19:22So he was allowed to unleash his creativity.
19:24The rest of the house is all you?
19:25Yeah.
19:26I couldn't let him touch anything.
19:28And I think he gave me the liberty to design.
19:31And he gave me the honor.
19:33As an interior designer, he trusted me a bit for this house.
19:37Excellent.
19:38Thank you so much for giving us a wonderful tour of her beautiful home that has no switch,
19:42gilded with gold, real gold, 24 karat gold.
19:45And it's very Dubai.
