A historic fairground gallopers attraction has now arrived at Black Country Living Museum. The ride has featured in many films and TV shows including the Paddington movie.
Transcript
00:00Okay, Alex, so we're here at the Black Country Museum. You're the fairground owner, aren't you?
00:17That's right. And just explain what's going on today.
00:19Well, we're just installing the newest ride to our collection, 1895 set of steam-driven gallopers.
00:27Wow. They'll be open to the public from this Saturday for the 1960s weekend and then we're
00:34open every day throughout the summer then until the end of October.
00:38Great. I've got to say, it's a wonderful thing and the colour's fantastic, isn't it?
00:41It's a great piece of history.
00:43And is it a permanent installation? Is it here for Goodman?
00:46It'll be here until the end of October and it'll do that every summer season, you see.
00:52Because there's so much woodwork and carve work on it, it was never built to be open all year round.
00:57The more modern ones can do, but these have to be looked after.
01:01The maintenance is huge and takes huge amounts of time, so we just can't stand it out all year round.
01:07But every summer season it'll be here.
01:09Wonderful.
01:10And every weekend it'll be run on steam.
01:12And it's had a few appearances on the television films, hasn't it?
01:15Very much so, yes.
01:16What kind of films has it appeared in?
01:19We did Rocketman for Elton John.
01:21Wow.
01:22We've done Paddington 2, that was a great one.
01:24Yes, I think I remember it in that.
01:25So yeah, all sorts of, crikey.
01:28Midsomer Murders we've done.
01:30Wow.
01:31It's had a few showings.
01:32Very much so, yeah.
01:33So as you say, it's going to be open to the public hopefully this weekend.
01:36This weekend, yes.
01:37Wonderful, that's great.
01:38Well thanks for showing me anyway.
