All foreign driving licences cannot be converted to Malaysian driving licences from May 19.
Road Transport Department (JPJ) director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said foreign nationals seeking an local driving licence must follow the same procedures as Malaysians.

00:08driving licenses can no longer be converted into Malaysian driving licenses starting from
00:13May 19th. He said all foreigners must now follow the same procedures as Malaysians to obtain their
00:20local driving license. He said this is part of JPJ's efforts to improve road safety and beef
00:27up compliance with safety standards among foreign drivers. However, he said it does not apply to
00:33certain categories of applicants, including individuals in the diplomatic corps and participants
00:39of the Malaysia My Second Home program. The move is seen as a move to address cases of road accidents
00:47involving foreign drivers in the country. Meanwhile, in Cebu, a Chinese national pleaded guilty at the
00:54magistrate's court to dangerous driving that resulted in the death of Sabah State Court Director
01:00Marutin Pagan on March 30th. Forty-two-year-old Sun Xue Song drove a sport utility vehicle dangerously,
01:07causing Marutin's death at the Kanawit roundabout near Cebu. Another foreign driver, who is a civil
01:13servant from Singapore, was also charged at the Johor Bahru magistrate's court on May 15th
01:19for dangerous driving. The accused, who was driving a Maserati, allegedly resulted in the death of a
01:2632-year-old motorcyclist identified as A. Vasantraj on the Second Link Expressway on May 9th.
