As the sun rises, so do the eleven family members of Circus Sunrise. Energetic and powerful, this old traditional family circus has a class all of its own.
Caroline Brophy, who likes to fly high, does a breathtaking solo trapeze act. She explains her passion for the family circus.
[Caroline Brophy, Trapeze Artist]:
“We are the only circus in Australia that’s actually only just family, based by two families at the moment.”
All eleven members of the circus have never experienced living in a house, yet they have this underlying sense of contentment.
[Rosita Meatchem, Director]:
“We are actually like one big family, you know, really like together. It’s like one big puzzle, if you take a piece out there’s somebody else who can help out.”
[Gary Brophy, Clown]:
“You are with your wife and kids twenty four seven, but I would not change that for anything in the world.”
For the last 20 years Bonita Brophy has only known the circus life and has no intentions of leaving. She says that wholesomeness in the family is a blessing.
[Bonita Brophy, Performer]:
“Can’t describe how close we are. We can turn to each other for anything.”
A very excited audience member calls out.
"It was fantastic, everyone was fantastic"
According to one wise clown, running a circus while also enjoying harmony in the family, boils down to a simple philosophy.
[David Meatchem, Clown]:
“Keep the peace, that’s one of the main things and not to create any jealousy.”
What more could a clown wish for!
