Video Statement of Birgitte Ohlsson, Swedish Liberal Minister to the Baltic Gay Pride in Lithuania, 2010
Event dates: 07/05/10 to 08/05/10
Location: Vilnius, Lithuania
The ALDE delegation to the Baltic Pride was composed of Sophie INT VELD, ALDE MEP, accompanied by Ottavio Marzocchi, ALDE advisor.
Sophie INT VELD moderated one of the morning sessions of the Conference that took place on the 7th of May on Equal rights for LGBT people: going beyond legislation.
The ALDE delegation then met the Justice Minister of Lithuania of the Liberal Movement Remigijus SIMASIUS with whom the issue of the upcoming Supreme Administrative Court decision was discussed, including the possible consequences of a negative decision on the pride, such as a serious setback in the image of Lithuania in Europe and in the relations between EU institutions and Lithuania (pic 4). As soon as the meeting was over, the ALDE delegation discovered with satisfaction that the Supreme Administrative Court had decided to overturn the decision of the Vilnius Administrative Court which had suspended the authorization for the pride march, which consequently could take place as foreseen, with great satisfaction of the ALDE delegation.
