More than 30 species of whales and dolphins have been identified in Peruvian waters. Additionally the scientific studies of the Peruvian conservation group Mundo Azul have shown that Peru has the world’s highest density of coastal bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus)with more than 1500 individual dolphins being photo-identified along the 180 kilometers o f coastline between Lima and Paracas (an average density of more than 6 dolphins per km).
