The "International Pumpkin Boat Championships" took place for the second time in southern Germany on Sunday.
Several engine-powered race boats made from giant pumpkins participated in the 200-meter-long course.
The idea for the race comes from the United States, and the German version is the only one of its kind in Europe.
Rudi Mallasch is the marketing director of the amusement park, where the race took place.
[Rudi Mallasch, Race Venue Marketing Director]:
"The spectacular elements about our pumpkin boat races is that the elite of the pumpkin boat races come to Holiday Park in Germany to compete against each other and to see who is the king or the champion in the world of the pumpkin boat discipline. And we are the only ones in Europe who offer this great spectacle and it's really worth coming over and just to see it. It's a lot of fun for the whole family and we are doing this here for the second time now, last year it was the first time and this year we are going to see if we have a new champion in the discipline of pumpkin race boat."
Last year's winner, Jaqueline Steffen, had some problems with her pumpkin this year. Steffen lost her title against Manuel Memmert. Memmert explains, a diet of pumpkins helped him to victory.
[Manuel Memmert, 2010 Pumpkin Boat Race Winner]:
"I have been on a pumpkin diet for 3 or 4 weeks. I only ate pumpkin soup, pumpkin steak and this kind of stuff and this was the reason why I could win today."
The giant pumpkins can weigh over 90kg (200lb) before having their tops cut off and flesh scooped out to turn the fruit into functioning boats.
