A wonderful story about the FOAK program at work at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology in collaboration with IBM Research on a solution for using real-time information to detect subtle changes in the condition of critically ill premature babies. The solution they created was based on clever stream-computing software called InfoSphere Streams. This allows the system to correlate and analyze data for patterns and trends at more than 200 times a second, faster than a hummingbird can flap its wings.
