Kit Kat Celebrates Its 75th Anniversary
The most global confectionery brand and the UK’s number one chocolate biscuit brand is celebrating its 75th anniversary. One of the UK’s oldest and most iconic brands, Kit Kat, celebrates its 75th Anniversary. Launched in 1935 in York under the brand name “Rowntree’s Chocolate Crisp”, the name changed to Kit Kat in 1937 and today: - more than one billion Kit Kat products are eaten every year in the UK, - 17.6 billion Kit Kat fingers eaten across the World every year, - that is the equivalent to 564 fingers consumed every second. - The largest single retail outlet for Kit Kat is Dubai Duty Free which sells over 1 tonne per day Kit Kat has seen many changes throughout its evolution – a temporary move to blue wrapping when the recipe had to change during rationing in the Second World War until 1947, the development of a two-finger variant in the 1960s and expansion across Europe in the 1970s. However, for the last 50 years, there has been one constant; the iconic line, ‘Have a Break, Have a Kit Kat which appeared in one of the UK’s earliest commercial TV advertisements in 1958. Earlier this year, Nestle UK launched the Fairtrade certified four-finger Kit Kat in the UK and Ireland, marking the latest evolution of the brand following its acquisition by Nestlé in 1988.
