Italy: The Towers of Bologna | European Journal

In the heart of Bologna stand two medieval towers. Dante wrote about them in the Divine Comedy. Now they are threatened by traffic.There are plans to start a new bus route that would go right past the towers, but the heavy traffic would likely prove extremely dangerous to their stability; they could collapse. Citizens' initiatives are calling for traffic to be rerouted away from the towers.
