Utilizing HVOF process to hardsurface large agitator paddle

Agitator paddles are often subject to highly abrasive service conditions and a chemical environment that varies with the material being processed. In this example, the client needed a coating for its stainless steel paddles that would withstand a variety of harsh service conditions, ensure maximum performance levels, extend equipment life and minimize downtime for component changes. For this application, we selected a nickel-based coating in combination with tungsten carbide. Such a combination tends to be more forgiving than a traditional cobalt-based tungsten carbide coating. It will withstand wear, abrasion, and attack from a wide range of chemicals. We utilized the HVOF (high-velocity oxygen fuel) process to apply the coating --- a delivery system that ensured a uniformly applied coating and a long-wearing, predictable protective barrier.
