Introducing "Back to mi home"
(...)
The songs sound really different from one another, each with its own colour though the style is distinctly Afro-Caribbean, from Trinidad through Jamaica to Cuba.
The diversity of this project is a reflection of Selewas own journey. Born in Africa, the young Selewa was raised on a diet of shango, calinda and rada. He eventually realized, through Calypso, the deep influence of African traditions (just like the African griot, the Calypsonian is a newsmonger!) and toured extensively in Europe with a Calypso band including his brother, Lord Skalipsoul. Eventually, Selewas passion for this music lead him directly to its home: Trinidad and its masters of calypso!
