Residents of Monaco are gearing up for the fairlytale wedding of Prince Albert and South African swimmer Charlene Wittstock. But they are also playing down the speculation of tension between the couple.

Tragedy and scandal have chipped away at the fairy tale principality of Monaco.

But locals hope a long-awaited wedding between Prince Albert and his South African fiancee will revive a faded gem on the Cote d'Azur.

His Serene Highness Prince Albert II is the 53-year-old ruler of the tiny city-state of Monaco and head of the centuries-old House of Grimaldi.

He will wed Charlene Wittstock, 33, this weekend in the palace courtyard during a lavish three-day celebration.

Monaco is abuzz with the nuptials, which take place just two months after Britain's royal wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton.

Locals in Monaco dismissed on Thursday talk of tensions between Prince Albert and Charlene Wittstock ahead of their wedding.

Albert has been linked to a string of beautiful women and has acknowledged fathering two illegitimate children, but he sought to shed his playboy image after meeting Wittstock.

The Prince had no need to settle down before, said one local man, and the rumors now that he had were just from jealous people.

[Mr. Vial, Monaco Resident]:
"He had no need, he had everything he wanted. The rumors, you should never listen to rumors, because you can say all you like as rumors."

[Claudia, Monaco Resident]:
"He hadn't found the love of his life, I think he has found her now."

French media reported on Wednesday that Wittstock, went to the airport in nearby Nice last week to board a one-way flight for South Africa, where she grew up.
