Afghan police die in friendly fire incident

Bullet casings litter the ground at the scene of a deadly shootout southwest of Kabul.
Two police officers were killed late Friday in a friendly fire mishap during a night raid.
Afghanistan has repeatedly asked that night operations stop, but Washington refuses, causing a rift between the two nations.
Police at the scene said Afghan forces were not told in advance about the impending raid by foreign troops.
But officials from the International Security Force claim the coalition of foreign and Afghan soldiers conducting the raid had identified themselves as friendly forces while being fired on by rocket-propelled grenades, mortar bombs and guns.
Unable to stop the attack, they called in air support.
Afghan leaders met over the weekend to discuss the controversial night raids in more depth.
