Guitar Lesson Description:
Chord Structure For these Popular Chords Is Not Enough, Here we Learn blues Chord theory!
Make sure you know the chord structure before attempting this
Ok so you have covered the chord structure of perhaps the most popular chords there has ever been and now it's time to learn some of the chord theory behind the popular chord progression. I often get people asking me "Why do I need to learn the blues theory behind the chord structure" The little extra effort to learn what's going on will have a huge impact to your understanding of music. Currently this popular blues chord progression that you have learnt can only be playing the key of A Major, well that's fine, but what if you have a song your writing and it uses chords in the key of F major, or perhaps you have a new singer who can't quite hit those notes so you need to move all the chords down. These are just the obvious reasons that's its important to learn more than just the chord structure. Further down the line as you get better and perhaps explore other styles you will need to learn other popular chord progressions which will take a long time if you have to learn them in new keys, it will be like learning the chord progression all over again. With the theory you can simply apply it to a particular note on the fret board and everything else stays the same, there is nothing new to learn.
