Iranian-American sentenced to death
Iran's Revolutionary Court has sentenced an Iranian-American man to death for spying for the CIA.
The semi-official Fars news agency said on Monday that Amir Mirza Hekmati was given the sentence for "cooperating with the [United States] and spying for the CIA".
(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S.-BORN MAN ACCUSED OF ESPIONAGE, AMIR MIRZA HEKMATI, SAYING:
"My name is Amir Mirza Hekmati".
Under the country's Islamic law, espionage can be punishable by death.
Hekmati, a 28-year-old of Iranian descent, was arrested in December.
Iran's Intelligence Ministry accused him of receiving training at U.S. bases in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Iranian officials say Hekmati admitted to having links to the CIA, but he said he had no intention of harming Iran.
Judiciary officials were not available for comment.
