The sight of moving traffic is a welcome one in this part of Austria.
Roads were opened on Wednesday after thousands of tourists had been trapped in the villages of Kappl and Ischgl for days due to some of the heaviest snowfall in years.
Tourists were relieved and said they looked forward to returning to the ski slopes.
(SOUNDBITES) (English) NIKOLAI ZUBAJEV, TOURIST FROM UKRAINE:
"I can't reach Ischgl for three days because avalanche come down, yeah, and the road was closed and I can't reach Ischgl three days. And now I reach and I go ski slope and I think everything is ok."
The routes were finally cleared after officials carried out controlled explosions on the mountains to reduce the threat of avalanches.
Authorities expect the conditions to improve over the coming days.
