Lung cancer can be treated basically by three different modalities: there's surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. We've made advances in all of those over the years.
My specialty is medical oncology, where we focus on the treatment of cancers with drugs, or chemotherapy. My part in treating lung cancer is in the chemotherapy treatment of it. We have seen the development over the last few years of several new drugs that are very exciting and have helped people with lung cancer and have prolonged survival, as well as quality of survival, over what it's been in the past.
