The Bureau of Meteorology's issued a severe weather warning for parts of Queensland state.
It said heavy rains, intense at times, threatened to further swell already-overflowing rivers and could trigger localised flash floods.
There was better news for New South Wales where another severe weather warning was cancelled.
Both states suffered severe floods a year ago which killed about 35 people and swamped 30, 000 homes.
Coal mines, roads, bridges and railway lines were also damaged, hampering Australia's economic growth.
