ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)

STORY: A Santiago subway train suddenly derailed near a children's playground Wednesday, smashing parked vehicles and colliding into a nearby apartment building.

The Metro train was not in service at the time of the accident and was carrying no passengers as it made its way to an above ground storage facility.

No injuries were immediately reported, but local media reports said the conductor was in a "state of shock" and taken in for a check up.

Residents living in the damaged apartment building said it was a miracle nobody was hurt on the ground especially considering the park were children often play.

The out of service train was approaching a warehouse where trains are kept when it continued beyond the tracks apparently still at high speed.

Santiago Metro workers were investigating the cause of the accident.

Four vehicles in an adjacent parking lot were either damaged or destroyed in the accident.
