I came upon a maiden fair
to find that she'd been cryin'
the passers-by that left her there
believed that she was dyin'
with flowing long red hair
and deep blue eyes
a heart of gold
and endless starry skies

a young European man
had crossed the sea to find her
they dreamed by night by day they planned
their past was a reminder
that if there's nothing ventured
nothing's gained
and only if you will
you'll break the chains

the young man is long gone
but his dream lives on
in those of us who'll
dry the lady's eyes
a brush fire in the mind of man
will set her free again
the tree of liberty
will surely rise
beneath her long red hair
and starry eyes
