Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin arrived at polling station on Sunday morning to cast his ballot in the country's presidential election.

He is expected to win the poll and reclaim the seat he held from 2000-2008.

The 59-year-old remains Russia's most popular politician, despite widespread protests against him.

The opposition brands his United Russia party a collection of "swindlers and thieves", and tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets to call for an end to his rule.

But a recent poll by the Levada Centre, a public research firm, has suggested that Putin will win the election with 63-66 percent of the vote.
