Italian rescue teams pull a woman from her collapsed house on Tuesday (May 29) after hearing her cries for help.

Working with their hands, members of the Vigili del Fuoco, or firebrigade, removed rocks and stones and managed to pull the 65-year-old from the ruins of her home.

The unidentified woman had gone back to her apartment in a four-storey building early on Tuesday morning when a 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck, causing the whole structure to come tumbling down.

Protected by a cupboard that fell across her, the woman was pulled from the remains of her kitchen at around 2100 local time and rushed to hospital to be treated for her injuries.
