Pakistan marks 66th Independence Day
Pakistanis across the country celebrate 66 years of independence.
On Tuesday, military leaders came out in full regalia to the changing of the guard ceremony in the Karachi mausoleum, where the body of the country's founder rests.
In the capital Islamabad, crowds welcomed Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, whose message was of peace and renewed ties with its conflict-stricken neighbour Afghanistan.
Pakistan will likely have a large role to play in Afghanistan's stability after foreign troops leave in 2014.
President Asif Ali Zardari echoed the prime minister and called for greater tolerance.
