Traditional Turkish Musical Instrument 'Ney', Rumi and the Philosophy of Sufism

*** Ney is an end-blown flute originating from Turkey that figures prominently in Middle Eastern music. Ney has been played continuously for centuries, making it one of the oldest musical instruments still in use.

It consists of a hollow cylinder with five or six finger holes. Sometimes a brass or plastic mouthpiece is placed at the top to protect the wood from damage.
