Protests flare as Venezuela government rejects vote recount

Hundreds of protesters face off with police in Venezuela's capital Caracas on Monday.
Demonstrators took to the streets, refusing to recognize the narrow victory of Chavez's preferred successor, Nicolas Maduro, in Sunday's contested elections.
Opposition candidate Henrique Capriles called for peaceful demonstrations.
But clashes broke out as the government rejected opposition demands for a vote recount.
Capriles' team says it has evidence of more than 3,000 election day irregularities, ranging from allegations of voters using fake IDs to intimidation of volunteers at polling centres.
Venezuela's electoral authority on Monday formally declared Maduro the winner, with 50.8 percent of the vote, against 49.0 percent for Capriles.
Addressing a news conference, Maduro said Capriles would have to face justice for provoking demonstrators and failing to respect the results.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people marched against Maduro.
