GRAND JUNCTION, Colo., September 4, 2010 -- Monday August 30, 2010, Syndicated Solar, in collaboration with Grand Junction based media outlet, Colorado West Outdoor Advertising (CWOA), has successfully installed Colorado's first and only solar powered billboard. The new solar powered tri-vision billboard that towers 44' over the highway is owned and operated by Colorado West Outdoor Advertising (CWOA), and is located at 2517 Highway 6 & 50, in front the Lowes/Wal-Mart shopping center. The solar powered billboard has created milestones for Colorado's on the increase solar industry. This project was exclusive from conception to installation, the 12, 180 watt Canadian Solar modules and Enphase Energy converters, were pre-fabricated in Syndicated Solar's warehouse, transported by trailer, and lifted to the top of the towering 44' tri-vision billboard by method of crane. The Colorado West Outdoor Advertising billboard now boasts a 2.17-kilowatt photovoltaic solar array and is estimated to produce over 90% of total energy needs for this location.
Colorado West Outdoor Advertising qualified for the Investment Tax Credit (ITC), equaling 30% of the total cost, and a Xcel rebate that paid for approximately 40% of the investment. Colorado West Outdoor Advertising, in addition is eligible for the accelerated depreciation schedule of 5 years on the adjusted asset value.
