A global distribution system alias GDS system is one of the most fundamental form of global airline reservation system and its is the interconnectivity between individual airline reservation system and online travel management companies & booking agents. When a user books one or multiple airlines to complete the trip then a copy of PNR along with his complete travel itinerary is stored in the GDS system, which is called the GDS system profiling. On the other hand, ARS – airline reservation system will only have a part of the profiling information. The seamless connectivity of the GDS system with every ARS helps the users to compare price, availability and other related charges while booking.

The major GDS systems are Amadeus, Sabre, Apollo, Galileo, Worldspan, Abacus and Infini. Following are the industries, which are using GDS systems today -

• airlines
• hotels
• car rentals
• cruise lines
