Daniel Ramjattan

Daniel Ramjattan has been playing guitar in the community since he came to Stratford at age 10 from Montreal. After studying with Dave Santandrea for several years, he began studies with Wilma Van Berkel, head of classical guitar studies at UWO. Since then, he has received numerous local and provincial awards for his abilities. He plays annually at the Kiwanis Festival of Performing Arts, where he has won such awards as the Strings Final trophy, and the Most Promising Guitarist award four years in a row. In the Ontario Music Festivals Association Provincial Guitar competition, he received the second place medal for his Grade 7 and 8 repertoires in 2008 and 2009. He also won the prestigious silver medal from the Royal Conservatory of Music for his Grade 7 exam for having the highest mark in the province in the 07-08 academic year, and recently received First Class Honours with Distinction for his Grade 8 exam. He has received lessons and masterclasses from guitarists such as Patrick Kearney, Andrew Zohn, and Jeffrey McFadden. Daniel recently recorded a demo CD with local producer Rick Francis of his interpretations of Bach, Paganini, Villa-Lobos, Merlin, and Tarrega.

Daniel continues to further himself musically and as a person, having been a member of the Vivace music program since April. He enjoys teaching and enjoys sharing his love of music with beginning students. He currently teaches 5 students while actively studying guitar, piano, and trumpet. Daniel also enjoys hanging out with friends and playing in his 4-piece rock band Thirsty Wench on electric guitar. Daniel is pursuing a Baccalaureate in Music (BMus) in classical guitar at the University of Ottawa in September.
