Sharing our expat lifestyle from the tropical paradise on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic in the little village of Cabrera. There are six primary towns along the North Coast of the Dominican Republic that attract most of the American, Canadian and European expats. They have discovered just how affordable it can be to live and retire with million dollar views and beautiful uncrowded beaches.

We happen to settle in the village of Caberera in the center of the North Coast be we are only a short drive in either direction to lively party towns, quiet lagoons, world class beaches and plenty to explore.

There really is a good life away from the rat race, away from the work grind and away from the cold icy weather up north. Here on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic you can expect near perfect tropical weather all year long.

And there is something pretty special about life on the North Coast. This section of the island is typically protected from the major impact of tropical storms that plague most other islands. Much of the North Coast is shielded from the hurricanes from the south by a mountain range across the middle of the island. The storms typically just skim along off shore just leaving a few days of rains and temporary high water in the lowest areas.

Because of this mountain ridgeline that parallels the coast, many of the expats living on the North Coast actually live up in the hills overlooking the coastline. This assures gentle cooling breezes year round. Many expats are even able to live the good life without the need for air conditioning.

The only way to figure out if you would enjoy living the good life on or near the beach on the North Coast is to come down and plant your toes in the sand. We routinely show our American, Canadian and European friends around the North Coast and we would love to include you in one of our little tours. It is a great way to meet others that left the winters to come enjoy outdoor life all year.
