In late February, 2018, Sheikha Latifa Al Maktoum attempted to escape her life in Dubai that was highly restricted by her father.
Although she was 32 years-old at the time, she was not permitted to make decisions about her own life.
She was forbidden from traveling outside of her country, the United Arab Emirates, even though her father rules over Dubai, the largest city in the UAE, and her family was wealthy beyond belief.
After escaping her powerful father, she sailed across the Indian Ocean with her closest friend by her side. With the intent to flying to America once she reached India, she merely hoped to life her life in freedom.
After one week of sailing, and only 50 kilometers from the coast of Goa, India, her vessel was attack. Her father, Sheikh Mohammed, had sent commandos to return her to his custody. Soon, she was back in Dubai, again under his control.
This injustice will not stand. We will use all means available to free Latifa, so that she may enjoy the freedom that she has already fought so hard for.
