John Firman was one of three brothers, all three of them British bandleaders. Bert was by far the most famous, Sid also had a solid reputation, but John seems to have been quite secretive, generally working behind the scene in the recording studio. Practically all his personal data are exclusively known through his discography. It is known though he played as a pianist in the Savoy Havana Band, that he took over leading the Rhythmic Eight, a combo in the style of Red Nichols' Five Pennies. From his brother Bert, he also took over artistic leadership of the Zonophone record label, in 1928. This rarely recorded song was waxed here in 1931, in an exquisite version, featuring a vocal by Maurice Elwin.
