French Police Searching for Fraudsters Behind Fake Louvre Tickets

Police in France are currently investigating a bizarre fraud involving fake tickets for the Lourvre museum in Paris.

Police in France are currently investigating a fraud involving fake tickets for the Louvre museum in Paris.

Employees at the facility were alerted something was wrong after numerous tourists and tour guides from China presented bogus tickets. . The incidents occurred in August.

Belgian customs had also seized over 3,500 fake tickets for the museum concealed in a package sent from China. The first string of tickets appeared on August 12th.

A spokesperson at the museum described the obvious phoniness stating “The ticket's texture was strange to touch and the general quality of the paper used wasn't good. The ink appeared to have run.”

By the 14th of the same month, the fraudulent tickets had been perfected. The tickets seized were said to be perfect clones of the museum’s originals.

Three days after the initial fake ticket discovery a criminal complaint was filed by the Louvre. The last time any tickets were intercepted was on August 26th, however local authorities are still keeping an eye out.

The issue is not only the monetary loss, but the timespan over which they can be used. The tickets are good for one year.
