Lyon at its brilliant best during its Festival of Light

The French city of Lyon’s celebrated Festival of Light has come along way since the days when the Lyonnaise lit simple candles and put them on their window sills.

Still an important part of the celebrations, it has now become a light spectacular which over four days from December 6-9 will have attracted over four million tourists.

December 8 sees the peak of the entertainment, when the candles which were added to a religious festival dating back to 1643, are lit all over the Lyonnaise region. Today the event is a not-to-be-missed moment of brilliance in the dark December nights.
