Ladakh - Indian Tibet

Located in the Upper Indus Valley between the chains of the Himalayas and Karakoram, Ladakh is an oasis of Tibetan culture in India.On average over 3500 m. above sea level has high mountain desert climate that influences the economy based on pastoralism and cultivation of cereals limited to the vicinity of watercourses. It was for centuries an important stopover on the silk road that from the Arabian Gulf lead to China along the course of the Indus. Important monastic Centre from the 11th century, it housed in the monastery of Lamayuru saint Milarepa. In addition to this we can remember the monastery of Hemis, Spituk, Likir, Stakna and Traktok the only school of the "red berets", at over 4000 m. above sea level.
