DNA Mysteries: The Search for Adam

This program uses genetic markers to explore "superancestors"; Genghis Khan and King Solomon's lineage are covered, as is Thomas Jefferson, but the main focus is on locating when "Scientific Adam" lived: the man everyone alive today has in their family tree.

They pinpoint him to living in the Great Rift Valley some 60,000 years ago, and try to reconstruct how he might have looked (the human race was actually reduced to around only 2,000 individuals 70,000 years ago). From what we know about human history, this might have coincided with the rise of imagination, giving him an evolutionary edge if he was the first of us with abstract thought (however, more recent estimates have located a common ancestor at a much earlier date).
