The Event of Ghadeer-e-Khumm (5:3)
The Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) whilst returning from his last pilgrimage, the following verse was revealed:
"O Messenger (of Allah)! Convey what has been revealed to you from your Lord. And if you do it not, then you have not, delivered His message (prophethood), and Allah will protect you from the people. Surely Allah will not guide the disbelieving people." (5:67)
The prophet then stopped in that exact place (Khum) and told his companions to set a stage, the Prophet then gave a sermon in front of approx. 100,000 and announced his successor Imam Ali (as), he said:
"For whomsoever I am Leader (Mawla) Ali is his Leader" the Holy Prophet then added "O Allah love those who love him and be hostile to those who are hostile to him".
On that very same day the following verse was revealed:
"This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed my favor on you and chosen for you Islam as a religion." (5:3)
