Kenny Ball is a legend. Probably the greatest test of an artist's success is his durability. Kenny is now a genuine institution, and the most successful jazz trumpet player in the UK and Europe. His landmark recordings of the 1960s such as 'Midnight in Moscow' catapulted him to worldwide fame, and since then he has become a living legend.
In this clip we see Kenny and his Jazzmen perform in 1977 in a jazz club in Dortmund in Germany.
When still in Holland in the sixties I collected all Kenny Ball’s LP’s.The only person I recognize in this film from the album covers is trombonist John Bennett.
Thanks to a youtube/daily motion friend in Germany, with whom I exchange jazz films, I was able to get this wonderful video of Ball’s band in full power and in an ideal jazz climate, the intimate jazz club.
