REVITALIZATION OF ISLAMIC CIVILIZATION IN THE WRITINGS OF SAYED ABUL HASAN ALI NADWI (H1333 -1420) AND BEDIUZZAMAN SAID NURSI (H1294-1380)

Abstract

Sayed Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi and Bediuzzaman Said Nursi were two profound Muslim thinkers of 20th century who lived in India and Turkey respectively. Having lived in a tumultuous time of Muslim history, both of them dedicated their life to save the Islamic faith from the currents of westernization and secularization. This paper aims to make an assessment and analysis of the methods these two scholars put forth in their writings for the revitalization of Islamic civilization. Having embodied with all necessary qualities of a visionary revivalist, both of them gave their full attention to ‘strengthening of faith’ and ‘reforming educational system’. The paper concludes (among others) with bringing some striking similarities between these two scholars in their thoughts, methods and approaches.
