Brest Surrender 1944

18 September 1944, the battered garrison of Fortress Brest finally capitulates. Colonel Erich Pietzonka commander of the 7th Paratroop Regiment formally surrender to General Walter M. Robertson commander of 2nd Infantry Division. At 15.00 Hrs. German soldiers were ordered to muster on Wilson Square and wait further for instructions. They were marched off to POW camps outside Brest and most were shipped to the United States.
