The film Malaysia has been waiting for, Muallaf is set to make its way into Malaysian cinemas on 24 December 2009.
Directed by the late Yasmin Ahmad, Muallaf tells the story of two sisters, Rohani and Rohana, who ran away from home to escape their wealthy father's mistreatment. They find refuge in a small town where they get to know Brian Goh, a young Catholic schoolteacher.
The heart-wrenching tale of love, forgiveness and religious tolerance told through "Muallaf" has been well received in Singapore last year. Previously, the film was harshly criticised by certain quarters for its religious context but managed to pass the Malaysian Film Censorship Board (Lembaga Penapisan Filem Malaysia) with no cuts.
Malaysian press was invited to an exclusive screening of Muallaf on 16th December 2009, at Cathay Cineplex Damansara.
