OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI — Five frat bros from Pi Kappa Alpha at the University of Mississippi were arrested for beating up a member of the Sigma Pi fraternity outside of his own frat house around 4 a.m. on October 6, according to a report from the Oxford Police Department.
According to WREG, the victim, Jeremy Boyle heard noises outside of his frat house and got jumped when he went to investigate. Four out of the five suspects, identified as Tucker Cole Steil, James Declan Basile, Christian Guy, Kyle Hughes, and Austin Rice can be seen smiling in their mugshots, but the face a range of serious charges including felony assault, larceny and hazing.
Boyle is recovering from his injuries which include a concussion, broken teeth and a ruptured eardrum, as well as bruises to his ribs, groin and lungs.
One of the suspect's family members said that the incident was just a prank gone wrong, and the men accused of the beating were just trying to steal a donkey from the other frat house, WMC ACtion News 5 reported.
"What we're finding is the leniency we've had so far on these assailants," Brian Boyle, the victim's father, told the The Daily Mississippian. "That's the biggest problem. They had gone through the university's justice system and were for all intents and purposes, slapped on the wrist. In the meantime, you've got accused felons walking around the campus."
