NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT — A Connecticut man was charged with waterboarding his girlfriend after committing a slew of offenses that included holding his own 9-month-old nephew at knifepoint during an armed robbery, CBS News reported.
Richard Stevenson, 25, is alleged to have got into a fight with his girlfriend at their home in New Haven in May. He allegedly tied her up in the basement and waterboarded her by putting a sock in her mouth and pouring water on the sock.
A few days later, on May 13 he allegedly held his own 9-month-old nephew at knifepoint at a gas station demanding that someone give him a phone, or he said he would stab the baby.
Later that same day at another gas station, he was allegedly caught on security camera paying eight dollars and holding a knife on his nephew again, this time demanding a gas fill-up worth about $40. He threatened to kill the baby, so the clerk let him fill-up his tank before calling police for fear that he would hurt the baby, according to a report from WTIC.
Fox 61 reported that police used stop-sticks to catch Stevenson while he was driving. His nephew was found unrestrained and crying in the front seat. Stevenson was arrested and put under psychiatric evaluation for his alleged crimes. He was charged with unlawful restraint, assault and related offenses for waterboarding his girlfriend, as well as first degree robbery, criminal attempt at first degree assault, and risk of injury to a minor. His bond was set at $240,000.
