Japanese Have Brilliant Idea To Protect Turtles From Dying On Rail Tracks

West Japan Railways, with help from the Suma Aqualife Park, has installed trenches under the tracks near railway switches so crossing turtles can safely cross without accidentally getting killed; the system also helps to prevent disruptions in service.

Turtles tend to move at a slower pace so crossing over train tracks can be dangerous. 
In addition to not being able to quickly dodge coming trains, they are known to get trapped at junctions and sometimes smashed to death when the rail switches activate.
