KRISTIANSTAD, SWEDEN — A doctor who drugged a woman before locking her up in a specially constructed sex dungeon did so because he "wanted a girlfriend," Swedish police have revealed.
The doctor, 38, reportedly kidnapped the woman from her Stockholm flat on Sept. 12 last year after feeding her chocolate-covered strawberries laced with the date-rape drug Rohypnol, the Sunday Express reported, citing reports in Sweden.
Each strawberry laced with the drug had been marked with a black pen, according to a police report.
The doctor put the unconscious victim in a creepy latex mask before wheeling her to his car and driving 350 miles to his rural property near Kristianstad in southern Sweden.
The doctor then locked the woman up in a purpose built 60-square-meter underground bunker with 12.5-inch thick walls and reinforced steel doors.
The doctor allegedly kept the victim inside the bunker for six days and raped her repeatedly. He even took blood samples and performed smear tests to check if she had STDs.
But his plan to keep the woman locked up long-term began to go haywire when he returned to the woman's flat to collect her belongings and found that her friends had reported her missing to police.
The doctor panicked and drove the woman to a Stockholm police station. He threatened her at gunpoint into telling a fake story and insisting she was OK.
But officers realised something was wrong and took the woman aside. She then told them the truth about her horrific ordeal.
Police believe the doctor intended to keep the victim captive for years. He has admitted drugging, kidnapping and holding the woman against her will, but denies rape.
The trial against the as yet unidentified doctor is expected to begin on Jan. 25 in a Stockholm court.
