Pontiac, MI - Oakland County Deputies assigned to the Directed Patrol Unit (DPU) attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle near Emerson Ave and Baltimore in Pontiac on Friday, February 12th, 2016 at 4:20 p.m.

The vehicle did not stop for DPU Deputies who had their lights and siren activated. DPU Deputies
requested assistance from fully marked patrol units. A fully marked vehicle located it at Featherstone Rd and Martin Luther King Blvd.

A second traffic stop was attempted and the vehicle continued to disregard the Deputies and continued to flee. The vehicle fled for approximately 30 seconds at which point a PIT Maneuver was deployed which disabled the vehicle.

As the Deputy exited his patrol vehicle to approach the suspect vehicle, the suspect fled from the vehicle on foot. The suspect, a 21-year-old, from Pontiac, left the vehicle in drive, which allowed the vehicle to move forward pinning the Deputy between his open door and the door frame. The suspect’s vehicle continued moving, unoccupied, into the traffic lanes of Martin Luther King Blvd and University Drive. Another Deputy saw this happening and positioned his patrol vehicle in front of the suspect’s vehicle stopping it.

The Duty Captain responded to the scene. The injured deputy was transported to McLaren Hospital – Oakland where he was treated and released with an injury to his leg. The suspect was
apprehended less than a block away without further incident. The suspect was lodged at Oakland County Jail pending the issuance of criminal charges.
