COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA — A South Carolina teacher was forced to resign after a nude selfie stolen from her phone was circulated in a Union County, South Carolina high school.

The State reports that during a four-minute break between classes on Feb. 18, Leigh Anne Arthur, 33, left her smartphone on the desk and went out to patrol the halls.

While she was out, a 16-year-old student took her unlocked phone and found a nude selfie she’d taken for her husband.

The boy snapped a picture of the image and sent it around. The photo made its rounds all over school, and even on social media.

But rather than punishing the student, the school decided it was the teacher’s fault. Union School Superintendent David Eubanks said in a statement that Arthur made the inappropriate picture available to her students by leaving her phone unlocked and leaving the class unattended. She was forced to resign or be fired.

WSPA reports that Arthur plans on pressing charges against the student, who, according to school district policy, should have been expelled.
